Los 50 mejores covers de la historia según BBC
La BBC publicó recientemente un listado, resultado de una votación para saber cuáles son los mejores covers de la historia. El ganador fue «Always on my Mind» compuesta originalmente por Johnny Christopher, Mark James y Wayne Carson Thompson para Elvis Presley y versionado por Pet Shop Boys y una buena cantidad de artistas como Willie Nelson, James Galway, Chris De Burgh, Johnny Cash & Willie Nelson de nuevo hasta Julio Iglesias y Michael Bublé.
En el puesto 2 quedó Johnny Cash con «Hurt» de los Nine inch Nails, tema grabado para su «American IV: The Man Comes Around» y su último gran éxito antes de fallecer. Le valió varios premios y un disco de Oro, también fue versionado por Tori Amos, Breaking Benjamin, Eddie Vedder, Sheryl Crow, Aaron Lewis (Staind), Placebo, Damien Rice, Sevendust (homenajeando a Johnny Cash) y Anathema entre otros.
La lista está llena de clásicos de todos los tiempos y nombres conocidos y algunos desconocidos como el puesto 5, Leonard Cohen no tuvo mucho éxito con Hallelujah y la versión de Buckley es considerada inclusive como la definitiva.
En el puesto 37 aparece «China Girl» de Iggy Pop interpretado por Bowie, aunque Bowie es co autor del tema, sólo que Iggy Pop lo lanzó primero en el 77 y Bowie en el 83, asi que técnicamente no sé si es un «cover».
La lista también cuenta con 3 temas de Bob Dylan (el 4, 12 y 27), Bowie aparece en el tema mencionado previamente y en el 16, versionado por Nirvana en el Umplugged. Otros que aparecen por dos en el listado son The Beatles.
Los únicos latinos en el listado son José Feliciano y Santana.
